Find ways to accomplish organizing your home office today. Organizing the home office you work in is a critical key to life and business success. If you were asked to find an important document in your home office within two minutes would you be able to do it?
If you answered “no” then you need to focus on organizing your home office. If you answered “yes”, are you sure? What are the components of organizing the home office? Let’s assume that you haven’t set up your home office yet. You have to decide where you are going to put it in your home. A home den is optimal, but many people use this space for an extra bedroom. So what other areas are left for a home office?
You can use a section of your kitchen, laundry room, basement, or even a closet. Make sure that you find a spot that is promotes your productivity and well being. If you put an office in the basement that has no windows you may feel secluded with natural light. On the other hand, if you are easily distracted by noise or looking out a window then the basement or a closet may be your best bet.
Once you have selected your home office space, the next step in organizing the home office is to maximize the use of the space. How much wall space do you have? How tall is the ceiling? Remember, you can utilize vertical space with stackable storage bins and shelving.
Make sure that you have enough space to have all the documents and technology you need at your hands. What about your desk? Organizing the home office usually revolves around the desk that you use. An L-shaped desk is optimal because you can fit your computer and printer on it and still have room to write on a piece of paper.
Make sure you invest in a comfortable office chair that fits your body type and health needs so you won’t become fatigued. Organizing the home office also includes your document storage system. What kind of filing system should you use?
It is up to you. You can have color coded folders, labels, and boxes. You can have plastic, wire, or wood shelving. Don’t forget the wires that come along with your computer, printer, lighting, etc. A pile of tangled wires is dangerous and detracts from the clean look of your office.
You can hide and secure wires safely using cord covers, clips, and tubing specifically designed for organizing wires. The important thing is that no matter what organizational system you choose, you must stick with it on a daily basis.
